Personality Tests and PLNs
Throughout my life, I have thought about what qualities I am bringing to the table as a friend, daughter, sister, aunt, and coworker. I think it is important to reflect on this in order to grow in your relationships with others. In my past workplaces as well as my current one, I have been told by colleagues that they thought I was very shy when they first met me. That opinion quickly changes once people get to know me. In that regard, I am still a newer teacher so depending on who I am around, it might take me longer to come out of that shell and be confident in what I can bring to the table.
The four PLN social benefits are social, affective, cognitive, and identity. The area I identify with the most would be affective. As a newer teacher, I enjoy having the opportunity to talk to other teachers about what they are doing in their classroom and seek feedback for my own. Since the first school that I taught at was extremely small, there were no PLNs as every one was teaching different ages and different subject areas. Teaching somewhere that has this benefit for me has been extremely beneficial in my growth as an educator as I am able to try new things that I may have never heard of before.
This week, I took 3 personality tests to help discover what qualities and characteristics that I bring to my PLN spaces. The first personality test that I took was the 16 Personalities Test. I have taken this test before and I have always been told that my personality is a defender. The website also shows you famous people with the same personality type. I was pleased to see that Beyoncé and I have this in common. Here are some other defenders that you may have heard of:| Image Source: 16 Personalities |
The second test I took was the Personality Type Indicator Test. This test yielded that I am a protector. I believe that this is the same personality that I received on my first test that labeled me a defender. They are both labeled as personality "ISFJ".

Thanks for the reflection on what you bring to your PLNs, Alyssa. I'm glad you enjoyed the process of seeing what some personality tests had to say.
ReplyDeleteHi Alyssa,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your thoughts this week! I related to you about affective growth being your identity. I feel that this is also where I fall too. I always seek out veteran teachers at my school for advice on curriculum, teaching strategies and even how to communicate with parents. I was lucky in my first few years of teaching that I was partnered with very effective veteran teachers. This meant I was able to pick their brains all the time! I think that helped me to grow my confidence in my skills very quickly. Now in year 4 I still seek out veterans' advice, but I also feel confident in my abilities.

Hey Alyssa,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your reflective post! Like you, I also thought about the qualities that I bring to the table at different settings and among different people, especially in the multiple roles/hats we wear. When I first learned about PLN's I too thought about the few that we would host as a school, but then I realized how many PLN's I have through my followings on social media as well. I really liked your defenders personality test, I've never seen that one before. So, naturally I look forward to taking it myself and seeing where I land. Thanks for sharing!
