Social Media Article Reflection
How will marketing change based off of what Gen Z is watching? This article appealed to me because I always find it interesting to see what my students are watching. Sometimes we end up being interested in the same TV shows and movies. I like that we can still relate to one another even though recently people try to create a huge divide between generations. This article referenced the amount of YouTube Gen Z is watching and I was astonished. I remember only watching YouTube videos that were viral. I never just scrolled through YouTube. The only time I would leave it on was for music purposes. This reminded me of my own nieces. My nieces are only 5 and 6 but they are obsessed with YouTube. One of my nieces refuses to watch movies and I believe it is probably because movies are too long for her to endure after being so used to YouTube videos. It makes me sad because I want them to watch all of the Disney classics with me! They are definitely into the vloggers. Even I know every word of some of these vlogger's songs just from it being in the background while my nieces watch. I can't bash YouTube that much. It is also a very informational platform for children and even myself. When I don't know how to do something, I am always Googling it and hoping to find a YouTube video to show me how!

TikTok is another platform that Gen Z is very into. During quarantine, I myself (a millennial) got into this app. It is another platform that has short videos for their users to watch. I find it interesting what different generations enjoy on the app. Like the article says, my students are always very interested in learning the viral dances on TikTok. I personally do not care for the dancing TikToks and enjoy the humorous videos. I think different generations do use the app for different purposes. One thing that is clear is that Gen Z is much more into the shorter videos than long ones.
This article piqued my interest because for the past year or so, I have debated deleting Facebook. I have definitely wanted to take a break from it. It's interesting because this article speaks on how people who leave Facebook are happier but less informed. This is so interesting to me because for the most part, everyone's posts regarding the news is what makes me want to delete in the first place. For this reason, I have been feeling tension and negativity from the app.
I believe I would still be up to date with the news without having a Facebook. My phone's news app updates me daily with breaking news and even celebrity news. I would still be informed and at the same time less irritated by the side chat regarding the news stories. I have so many friends on Facebook with different opinions and they all feel that Facebook is the place to share it. I use social media very differently so it tends to put me in a mood to see this. I can totally see myself happier without Facebook. If someone paid me to delete it I would have no problem doing so. It would be a good idea to at least take a break from it when I am feeling this way and see how it helps.
